Dirty Goods Gig it Guerilla Style

Border Magazine, Dirty Goods, the 48v team and The Empty Shops Project teamed together to bring the city centre an experience in live music which it hadn’t quite seen before.

The Super Dragons Den was the venue for the gig, and with a sleepless night behind the boys from Dirty Goods having had to sleep over in the shop to guard their equipment (not unlike covert ninja security enforcers). The morning of Friday 30th quickly arose and the scene was set, the 48v sound team had sound checked and the sound equipment was ready to rock.

A conceptual mosaic art installation made up of front page covers of newspapers and carefully chosen paparazzi shots of soap star Lacey Turner, created much intrigue to the empty shop, and with the aid of the Riverfront, Newport City Radios’ ‘The Local Show’ and Border Magazine, a lot of public interest had been generated and a good crowd had gathered, not quite sure what they were about to witness. At 1 the visual art piece was torn down and Dirty Goods kicked off their set to a growing crowd, pumping out their own dizzying cocktail of electro charged indie to the lunchtime crew on the streets of Newport town centre.

Heads were immediately turned as the music could be heard right through Commercial Street. Needless to say complaints were made, needless to say people wanted to stifle the sound of musical creativity, but NO! It could not be stopped! Dirty Goods successfully performed a nice and quick 20 minute set, which had drawn interest from a crowd of close to 100 people, giving the people of the town centre a rare treat in an otherwise very normal day on the high street.

Keep an ear out for more collaborations with The Empty Shops Project and Border Magazine in the future. Massive thanks to Dirty Goods as once again they stoke up the musical fires of Newport, Rock City.
